First Week in Belgium

I got the box thank you. The Christmas tree is all set up except for the lights. and there is one piece missing. But is looks good. Thanks for the deodorant. It is so much nicer than the kinds that they use in Europe.

The work in Belgium is just about the same as in the Netherlands. The people here are not so blunt, so it can be a bit nicer not getting chewed out on every door, but if you are not careful you will end up wasting a lot of time on people that are not actually interested. There are a few african members in our branch. There are more foreigners in Belgium because it is easier to get a visa here. The branch members here are awesome. There are a few recent converts and returned members that we are tight with. The elders quorum president has been taking us around on sundays to look up less active members and and fed us every sunday while I have been here. That is somebody who magnifies his calling. He sacrifices his time and gas and comfort every Sunday to bring others back to the church. While not with us, he is calling people and visiting them and asking them if he can bring us along next time so he had also made a couple appointments for us. This man is gold.

The Elders in Brussels run into the French Elders sometimes, but we never do. Split in language is real except in Brussels. Most people there speak French, some Dutch. But other than that you either live in the French side or the Dutch side. Flemish is still dutch but it is  very french sounding Dutch. I thought the people were native French speakers when I first heard them speak. But a lot of people try not to speak with too hard core of a flemish accent with us. There are different words, sayings sounds. One of which is a very nasal french R.

There are some cool things to do in Belgium. Today we are going to the castle in Gent. I want to go to Brugge sometime as well which is supposed to be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. They are initiating plans to decrease tourism because there are too many in Brugge.

This last week we had a Turkey bowl on Monday with the zone. We taught some cool investigators including a family from the Dominican Republic. that guy is a primo. We also did service in a forest digging up small trees and pulling out blackberry bramble in an overgrown plot of land. We are going to finish it and then burn all of it in a giant bonfire sometime in the future. We also spent Friday in Brussels so Elder Stanworth can get his drives license. I cant get mine so no worries about tickets and crashed cars. Not that I ever did those anyway.
