Cold and Fat

This has been quite a cold week. A thick fog has settled in and this past week when we have been riding our bikes, the fog collects on our clothes and then freezes so we are covered with a layer of ice.




 
Elder Stanworth is off to Utrecht. I now have Elder Van Fleet from Payson Utah. He has 2 transfers left. He was one of my district leaders in Breda. He was also one of the missionaries that Aunt Emily met on the plane when she was going to Russia. He plays the harmonica and makes puns all of the time. He is super funny and we are having a lot of fun here in Geel.

We have a ton of food. We have dinner appointments and members are giving us food and since we had to be in by 4 we decided to cook a leg of lamb. Now we have a ton of leftovers. We also had a dinner appointment with a Russian member last night and she cooked a ton of Russian food gave us a bunch of leftovers. We barely had room in our fridge.

We have had some crazy nights this past week of missed busses and missed dinners and being late to everything. It is so hard to be on time with this belgian puclic transportation. But the good news is that everything has worked out in the end and we got in with a few people and have a couple new investigators. And on the day that we had our dinner appointment and lesson fall through, we picked up an awesome lesson with an african lady and got let in with a part member african family that fed us dinner. Africans saved the day.

Everything is pretty much the same. We have been biking a lot and trying not to get fat with all of the food and chocolate that we now have. We have at least a couple kilos of belgian chocolate in our apartment and it is increasing almost every day.

Thanks for the gloves, pens, toothbrush, hat, snacks, deoderant and toothpaste. I have desperately needed these things for a while but keep on forgetting and am too cheap to get them.

The funny thing about this picture is the angle. Packard is a good 8 inches taller than his com.  Everything is a little less exciting now that it is the second week, but it is still good. I have started to get a little homesick now that I can not really speak to anybody comfortable but my companion, but I will get over it. Our investigators are doing well. Efrem worried us a little bit this week. He is going to school so that he can get into politics and help fight fro freedom in his home country. He is nervous about getting baptized because he doesn't want to have to make a commitment to God and then lie in politics. He was forced into the militia there at age 16 and was shot 3 times. He is awesome though. He has a good testimony and everything. He is also worried that the gangsters that his country have in Holland are going to hunt him down and kill him. Goodbye to Zaandam and a really cool castle

Muiderslot   Some people hate Mormons. Most just hate religion in general too much to bother to know what a Mormon is. But then most of them are really good people. The dutch people are very simple and down to earth. They live in small houses, have few possessions and are fully satisfied. It is remarkable with how happy they make themselves with so little. They just need a bed, a piece of bread with cheese on it, and 20 square feet with flowers on it and they get the most they want out of life. That is super impressive, but unfortunately it also makes it really hard to make them comfortable enough to let you invade their 20 square feet and preach the gospel.  This week I am getting transferred to Den Haag. Zaandam was a short stay, only 2 transfers, compared to 4, then 3, then 4 in my other cities. Tall Baller Dutchies

So this week we found out that our district is getting a bit famous around here. We have heard from a couple different sources that we are referred to by everybody as the Tall Baller Dutchies or something of the sort. We have been trying to talk to new people a lot but this is a little surprising because there are so many missionaries circulating, but I guess it is starting to become a thing.  I have been learning how to play basketball from my companions a lot now, so i am actually not that bad anymore. I try to go and lift for a little towards the end of each gym time so i do not get super weak. One hour is not enough time. I gained a few pounds in the first couple of weeks but I started eating just a bowl of oatmeal or plain shredded wheat in the morning, and then alternating between an actual meal and just a salad for lunch and dinner so now I am back to my original weight.
